Abandoned or Junked Vehicles
The City enforces codes designed to removed the health and safety hazards caused by inoperable vehicles or vehicles which have been abandoned by the owner. A vehicle is presumed to be inoperable if the plate is NOT current, the vehicle is on blocks or if one or more parts of the vehicle needed for lawful operation are absent. Inoperable vehicles are required to be stored within an enclosed garage or other building. This provision does not apply to vehicles which are temporarily disabled for a period of 30 days or less, or to salvage dealers, providing they meet all applicable zoning requirements.
Grass and Weeds
It is unlawful for any property owner or renter to allow weeds 12" or taller, or grass 6" or taller to remain on their property. The property owner or renter is responsible for the mowing and maintaining your yard from alley center to street center and from property line to property line, including all parking, fence line and alleyways adjacent to your property.
Also remember, it is unlawful to allow grass to be blown and remain on the street or alley. These clippings tend to block the storm water runoff drains and that creates a maintenance problem.

Property Addresses
The Wamego City Code requires every premises in Wamego to have an address visible from the street. Numeral must be at least 4 inches in height (6 inches for businesses) with a stroke width of at least 1 1/2 inch. Also, for multi-occupancy properties, an apartment or suite number/letter must be posted on or near the door of each unit.
Water Hazards
The International Building Code, adopted by Wamego, regulates any structure intended for swimming or recreational bathing that contains water over 24 inches deep. A barrier (usually a fence) must be provided to a height of at least 4 feet. The barrier myst be free of gaps that would allow a 4 inch diameter sphere (or larger) to pass through, and gates must be self closing/latching and able to be locked. An alarm is required where a door from the house opens directly into the pool area.
